When I reached the age of 85 a few months ago, I realized that 85 is a really old age. I would like to share what may or may not happen to you if and when you reach that age (depending on few things like overall health, mental attitudes and other things).
The first thing I noticed is loss of muscle tone, which in my case seems to have disappeared, and it is hard to lift any heavy things or twist open certain lids due to the lack of grip. It is really disheartening not to be able to do such things.
The next thing I noticed is the short term memory diminishes quite a bit. The inability to remember where you put your car keys, glasses, books or whatever you had in your hand few minutes ago is very annoying. Besides these things you forget to close doors, zip your fly, brush your teeth, etc., etc. and many other things I don’t remember at this time.
I tried to find a solution to the short term memory problem, and it works. The solution is – pay attention to every detail of what you’re doing. And it works (for a few seconds).
On the positive side, I am now able to do the crossword puzzle, sudoku, Jumble and other puzzles more easily. And valuable life experiences tend to stay with you, which is what I call “wisdom”.
With regard to health issues, I have had in my life a few more or less serious problems: In 1974 I had my gall bladder removed (genetic influence). Many years later I had to be operated on my bladder (due to my smoking when I was younger according to the urologist). Then when I was 73 years old I had to have my left hip replaced. Then 2 years ago I had my right hip replaced. Right now, so far so good. I do not take any kind of medication for any reason. And I have not visited my primary physician for the last ten years!
To summarize, in order to have a long and healthy life, 1) do some kind of daily exercise; 2) eat healthy foods; 3) have the right mental attitude; 4) stay away from doctors and medications. That’s all.
If you have any thoughts on anything I have said in this post, I would like to hear from you.
Manny! That’s great! But I’d like to suggest you visit your primary care doctor at least once a year so they can listen to your heart and take your blood pressure. Xoxo!
Well, this coming Thursday I have an appointment with my PP. Do you think that he will find nothing wrong with me? IMPOSSIBLE! He MUST prescribe that I must have something . The only thing he needs is instill FEAR on me (Powerful weapon) to accomplish his expertise in the medical field!
Keep active, eat whole foods and enjoy life without fear.
